Amy Reed Fiction

YA Author of The Boy and Girl Who Broke the World, Our Stories, Our Voices, The Nowhere Girls and other books.

THE BOY AND GIRL WHO BROKE THE WORLD is out in THREE MONTHS!

April 8, 2019 By AmyReed Leave a Comment

Hello!

My new book THE BOY AND GIRL WHO BROKE THE WORLD is officially out in just three months, on July 9! I would be incredibly honored and grateful if you’d help spread the world and pre-order a copy (and maybe throw in the new paperback of THE NOWHERE GIRLS while you’re at it). Pre-orders are a really powerful way to support a book and to help it get attention from booksellers.

Great news! BOY AND GIRL is available for pre-order from all your favorite online places to get books:

– Malaprop’s (my favorite local indie bookstore in Asheville, NC)
– Indie Bound
– Barnes and Noble
– Books-a-Million
– Simon & Schuster
– Amazon

Writing this book kept my heart from breaking over the last couple very difficult years. It’s about lovable weirdos, the healing power of friendship, and finding hope even when the world is falling apart.

This book is also special to me because I allowed myself to get a little…weird with it. As a teen, I was obsessed with Tom Robbins and his quirky, warmhearted, and surreal take on the Pacific Northwest where I grew up. This book, in some ways, is my humble attempt to honor that lineage. I’ve always been a huge fan of authors who integrate surreal and magical elements into their realism, and I let myself have a lot of fun with this one. Because what’s more fun than the end of the world, right?

Below you will find the official book description and a lovely blurb from one of my favorite YA authors. Thanks for all your support over the years, and I hope you love this book as much as I loved writing it.

THE BOY AND GIRL WHO BROKE THE WORLD

The Astonishing Color of After meets Eleanor & Park in this breathtaking and beautifully surreal story about a friendship between two teens that just might shake the earth around them or at the very least make them face some painful truths about the nature of what drives us apart…and what brings us together.

Billy Sloat and Lydia Lemon don’t have much in common, unless you count growing up on the same (wrong) side of the tracks, the lack of a mother, and a persistent loneliness that has inspired creative coping mechanisms.

When the lives of these two loners are thrust together, Lydia’s cynicism is met with Billy’s sincere optimism, and both begin to question their own outlook on life. On top of that, weird happenings including an impossible tornado and an all-consuming fog are cropping up around them—maybe even because of them. And as the two grow closer and confront bigger truths about their pasts, they must also deal with such inconveniences as a narcissistic rock star, a war between unicorns and dragons, and eventually, of course, the apocalypse.

With a unique mix of raw emotion, humor, and heart, the surreal plotline pulls readers through an epic exploration of how caring for others makes us vulnerable—and how utterly pointless life would be if we didn’t.

The Boy and Girl Who Broke the World is gritty, gutsy, and ferociously strange. Amy Reed offers us a surreal yet oddly familiar world teetering on the edge of destruction and offers hopeful and inventive ways to survive the pain and salvage our dreams. This story is powerful and unique, and I envied its wild and irreverent vision to pieces. (Nova Ren Suma, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Walls Around Us)

Oh, and another cool thing! The paperback edition of THE NOWHERE GIRLS is coming out on the same day, with a GORGEOUS new cover! You can go ahead and throw that in your virtual shopping cart too 🙂

My new book UNFORGIVABLE is out TODAY!

May 3, 2016 By AmyReed Leave a Comment

Unforgivable Book CoverHello! I am so excited to share the news that my new book, UNFORGIVABLE, releases today! It is the sequel to INVINCIBLE (which also releases today in paperback), and starts right where the first book left us at a very nasty cliffhanger. You’ll find out what happens to Evie and Marcus, and this time it will be from Marcus’s point of view.

UNFORGIVABLE is my seventh book, and it’s my first written entirely from a boy’s perspective. It tells the story of Marcus as he tries to sort through the wreckage of his relationship with Evie, and as he finally faces the ghosts from his own past that he’s tried so desperately to outrun. It’s dramatic, romantic, and at times very dark, but with enough hope and transformation to make it all worth it. I promise! [Read more…] about My new book UNFORGIVABLE is out TODAY!

DAMAGED is out TODAY!!!

October 14, 2014 By AmyReed Leave a Comment

Damaged book cover

Hello friends, family, and fans,

I am so incredibly excited to tell you that my new book DAMAGED comes out TODAY!

I started writing it three summers ago while on a cross-country road trip with my husband, Brian, and just barely pregnant with my daughter Elouise. Kinsey and Hunter, the main characters in DAMAGED, visit many of the same places we came across on our route, and I hope you will take the journey with them.

Part ghost story, part epic road trip, and part reluctant love story, DAMAGED offers readers another piercing, poignant story full of emotional truth from author Amy Reed.

After Kinsey’s best friend Camille dies in a car accident during which Kinsey was driving, Kinsey shuts down, deciding that numbness is far better than mourning. All she wants during the last few weeks of high school is to be left alone, but Camille’s mysterious boyfriend, Hunter–who was also in the car that night–has different ideas.

Despite all of Kinsey’s efforts, she can’t outrun Camille, who begins haunting her dreams. Sleep deprived and on the verge of losing it, Kinsey runs away with Hunter to San Francisco. As they drive across the country, trying to escape both the ghost of Camille and their own deep fears, Kinsey questions all she once believed about her friendship with Camille. Hunter, meanwhile, falls into a spiral of alcoholism, anger, and self-loathing. Ultimately, Kinsey and Hunter must come to terms with what they’ve lost and accept that they can’t outrun pain.

Publisher’s Weekly called DAMAGED a “thoughtful portrait of survivor’s guilt and road trip story about taking the risk of shedding one’s past,” and Kirkus called it “haunting, in more ways than one.” School Library Journal said it is a “striking novel” that offers a “well-plotted and excellently written meditation on grief, loss, and the power of new beginnings.”

I am honored to share my book with you, and I hope you enjoy it. You can purchase it at your local bookstore or online at places like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Simon & Schuster, my local independent bookstore Malaprop’s, and many other retailers. If your local bookstore doesn’t have it, please request that they order it!

Here are some other things you can do to help your favorite authors:

  • Buy our books as close to the release date as possible
  • Request that your local library carry our books
  • Share news about our books on social media like Facebook and Twitter
  • Leave positive reviews on Amazon and Goodreads
  • Share the news by good old fashioned word of mouth

I would be grateful if you’d do any of these things to help spread the word about DAMAGED. It is a great joy to write books for you all. Thank you so much for your support.

Hugs,
Amy

INVINCIBLE cover reveal!!!

October 6, 2014 By AmyReed 1 Comment

I am so incredibly excited to finally show you the cover for INVINCIBLE, the first book in my two-book series with Katherine Tegen/Harper Collins (the same folks who do Veronica Roth’s DIVERGENT series, among other amazing books).

Invincible_tagline_final.indd

Live hard. Love hard. Don’t look back.

Evie is living on borrowed time. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer several months ago and told that by now she’d be dead. Evie is grateful for every extra day she gets, but she knows that soon this disease will kill her. Until, miraculously, she may have a second chance to live.

All Evie had wanted was her life back, but now that she has it, she feels like there’s no place for her in it—at least, not for the girl she is now. Her friends and her parents still see her as Cancer Girl, and her boyfriend’s constant, doting attention is suddenly nothing short of suffocating.

Then Evie meets Marcus. She knows that he’s trouble, but she can’t help falling for him. Being near him makes her feel truly, fully alive. It’s better than a drug. His kiss makes her feel invincible—but she may be at the beginning of the biggest free fall of her life.

To be Released April 28, 2015

Isn’t it beeeyoooootiful?! I can’t wait for you to read it.

Hugs,

Amy

(P.S. Don’t forget DAMAGED is coming out NEXT WEEK!)
